WHAT IS VMR BRIBIE ISLAND

VMR Bribie Island is a 100% volunteer organisation that works to enhance the safety of the boating community in our region.  We provide a 24/7 marine radio monitoring and rescue vessel service, as well as providing educational and social programs for the boating community on Bribie Island and surrounds.

We are currently one of 25 separate VMR squadrons in Queensland.   We are in the process of transitioning to a new umbrella organisation, known as Marine Rescue Queensland.  None of our services will change, however there will be some changes to our membership processes, discussed below.

VMR Bribie Island currently has a reciprocal arrangement with VMR units between Bribie Island and the Queensland Border for vessel assistance.  We also have a reciprocal arrangement with Coastguards at Caloundra and Mooloolaba. Details can be supplied on request.

FEES and SUBSCRIPTIONS - As from 1st April 2024

VMR Bribie is planning to transition our rescue vessel coverage to become part of the new "Marine Rescue Queensland" organisation in third quarter 2024. Once this transition is complete, there will be no need for the additional subscription for vessel rescue coverage.

As a result, VMR Bribie is introducing a reduced "Transitional Subscription" that will provide vessel rescue coverage between your joining date and the "transition date". This fee will be $50, regardless of the number of vessels covered*. (This fee includes associate membership of VMR Bribie Island.)

The fee for associate membership (without vessel rescue coverage) remains at $20 for 12 months.

  • The membership subscription includes Associate Membership of VMR Bribie, and an optional additional subscription specifically for vessel rescue coverage for one or more vessels.
  • Please note that it is the vessel that is covered for in-water assistance, not the person operating the vessel.  If you own multiple vessels these should all be recorded in your membership
  • Members who participate actively in squadron activities can become Active Members.
  • Only Active Members are entitled to vote at meetings of the association or be part of the Committee.
  • For new memberships there is a 24hr waiting period from payment for vessel coverage

Members with vessel rescue coverage will be provided with free on-water assistance for the covered vessel, up to a value of $500 in any year.  This is about 2-3 hours assistance time and extra charges may be incurred for assistance exceeding this time.

Members are eligible and encouraged to become active members and participate in boat crew, radio duty, fundraising, administrative and building/boat maintenance activities. Click here for further details about volunteering.
